Club Trials in 2025

Motorcycle Trials
Motorcycle trials, also known as observed trials, is a non-speed event on specialized motorcycles. The sport is most popular in the United Kingdom and Spain, though there are participants around the globe.
Modern trials motorcycles are lightweight and are designed to be ridden standing up. No matter your age, whether you are young or old, male or female, trials is available to all. Events are available which cater for youths, adults and riders over 40 years of age, twin-shock and Pre 65 machines.
Riding motorcycle trials requires fine throttle control, balance, and machine control which can help develop good motorcycle control for other motorcycle sports such as enduro, motocross and road racing and also road bikes.
The marked route is split into sections where a competitor rides between coloured markers while attempting to avoid touching the ground with their feet. The observed sections are usually of natural terrain and the designated route is carefully laid out to test the skill of the rider.
In every section, the competitor is scored by an observer (hence the sport's name) who counts how many times the competitor touches the ground with a foot (or any other part of the body) and records the score.
The possible scores in each section are 0, 1, 2, 3, or 5. If a competitor rides through the section without touching the ground with a foot, they earn a score of 0 (which is called "clean"). If they touch the ground once, they receive a score of 1. If they touch down twice, they receive a score of 2. If they touch the ground three or more times, they earn a score of 3, if they complete the section without stopping, dismounting, going out with the section markers, or rolling backward. If the competitor fails to complete the section a score of 5 (sometimes called a “fail"). The winner is the competitor with the fewest points at the end of the event.
Starting Trials
Start from just 4 Years old
There are classes for riders of virtually any age, the youngest class being for riders from four years old on electric bikes, meaning that Trials allows children to compete earlier than in any other Motorcycle discipline.
Is there a class for me?
Events are available which cater for youths, adults and riders over 40 and 50 years of age, twin-shock and Pre 65 machines. Events will often have up to four different routes within each section so it is important to know in advance which set of section flags/markers you need to ride between for your particular class.
"Trials test a rider's handling skills, balance and agility over a variety of natural objects. Riders will face challenges riding upstream, navigating over rocks and ascending grassy hill climbs amongst many other obstacles. Be careful not to stop or put your feet down as this will incur penalties! Officials observe the various sections and score riders on their performance ability. You don't need a driving licence and can start at age 6, so what are you waiting for, LMCC are here to help you enjoy the sport?"
